Café review: Caracoli (Guildford, Surrey)

Once again I found myself in Guildford this Friday! In order to get the biggest bargain on a pair of shoes from Urban Outfitters, I had to return two pairs and re-buy them instore, so I was back again this week to return the last pair! Wanting to try somewhere different - as always - I did a bit of research and came across some great reviews of coffee shop/food store Caracoli.

At the top of the High Street, it was a great place to start before making our way down the main shopping drag and into the centre. It's actually situated on the top floor of Steamer Trading Cookshop, which isn't all that clear; luckily for us, there was a girl handing out hot chocolate samples and she pointed us in the right direction! (By the way, the hot chocolate was gorgeous, and my sister bought a packet for her boyfriend in the shop for a rather reasonable £3.95. If it hadn't been so muggy out I would definitely have ordered one.)

The menu is pleasing in that it's not huge and overwhelming; there was also a large selection of cakes, sandwiches, salads, and yummy looking Scotch eggs on display, that weren't included on the big menu above the counter. The menu options were things like a soup and quiche of the day, as well as various platters/boards - my mum had the mezze option (see the top of the photo!). My sister and I shared a BLT (left on the photo) on a lovely soft multigrain baguette, and a warmed chorizo, onion chutney and mozzarella panini. The added mixed leaves were served with a tasty dressing too. My iced latte wasn't as good as last week's, and - like many places - the price for a can of Diet Coke that you can get for 60p in a newsagents was pretty extortionate,  but the quality of the food was brilliant. You could tell it was freshly made, and the presentation was impeccable. The staff were also friendly and efficient.

We stopped into another little coffee shop for a quick coffee later on in the afternoon, and vowed to go back to try out the food - watch this space!
